Fine Fabrics for Fine Minds

What do Hermann Hesse, C. G. Jung, Meret Oppenheim and Jean Tinguely all have in common? In addition to their influential ideas, they are connected to Basel – and possibly to the same shirt maker: Metzger, founded in 1888 as Gustav Metzger AG.

Once a symbol of Swiss craftsmanship and innovation, Metzger now returns as MAISON METZGER - revived by the family and a close-knit team - reinterpreting its legacy through high-quality and timeless basics, for men and women.

A Return of an Icon

In 1888, Gustav Metzger began crafting fine shirts in Basel. For more than 100 years, Metzger was an important Swiss manufacturer and stood for precise workmanship, technical innovations, production exclusively in Switzerland and exports throughout Europe – from private customers to institutions and even the Swiss army.

After ceasing operations in the 1990s, Metzger is now making a comeback as MAISON METZGER - revived by the Metzger family and a small team of friends united by their passion for craftsmanship, design, and modern interpretations of classic tailoring, with a mission to bring a piece of Basel’s textile and fashion history into the present day.

Craftsmanship

Italian Fabrics. Portuguese Precision. Swiss Spirit.

Every piece begins with high-quality fabrics woven in Italy by Carlo Bassetti, a historic mill founded in 1875 and known for responsible, GOTS-certified cotton production. Tailoring takes place in Portugal, where skilled makers ensure exceptional fit, durability and finish under audited working standards.

The result: finest garments rooted in Swiss design values - clarity, precision and honesty - interpreted through modern European craftsmanship. We focus on basics that are built to last, and are guided by the simple idea of; only the best, or nothing.
